Rob Young, professor of geology and director of WCU’s Program for the Study of Developed Shorelines, is scheduled to give a presentation at a seminar titled “Environmental Aspects of Sand Mining” and taking place Wednesday, Nov. 16, in Nairobi, Kenya.
Young will be speaking on the topic “Documenting Global Sand Mining Activities and their Environmental Impacts.”
The event is part of the annual meeting of the Joint Group of Experts on the Scientific Aspects of Marine Environmental Protection. The meeting is hosted this year by United Nations Environment at the UN Gigiri Compound in Nairobi, and the event is open to all UN staff.
The Joint Group of Experts is an advisory body to the United Nations system on the scientific aspects of marine environmental protection.
