The Western Carolina University Wind Ensemble will be performing its first concert of the fall semester in the John W. Bardo Fine and Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11. It is free and open to the public.
The ensemble is an auditioned group of musicians performing a challenging repertory that includes premieres of commissioned works. Conductor Margaret Underwood, assistant professor with the WCU School of Music, will be accompanied by guest conductor David Starnes, director of the award-winning Pride of the Mountains Marching Band, and joined by Bradley Ulrich, WCU trumpet professor.
The performance will be the same as is planned for the ensemble’s upcoming appearance at the North Carolina Music Educators Association Professional Development conference in Winston-Salem, beginning Saturday, Nov. 5, with works on the program including Richard Danielpour’s “Vox Populi,” Anthony Plog’s “Contemplations for Flugelhorn and Wind Ensemble,” Percy Grainger’s “Colonial Song” and William Schuman’s masterwork “New England Triptych.”
