Inauguration of UNC system President Margaret Spellings set for Oct. 13

Margaret Spellings will be inaugurated as the 18th president of the University of North Carolina system Thursday, Oct. 13.

The formal ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. in Memorial Hall on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Participants will include state and educational leaders along with faculty, staff, students and other delegates from across the state and nation.

In addition to Spellings’ oath of office and inaugural address, the ceremony will include performances by the North Carolina Central University Jazz Ensemble and a 68-member combined choral ensemble comprised of students from all 17 UNC system campuses.

North Carolinians will have multiple options for watching the festivities. UNC-TV will provide a live web stream on the UNC system website at www.northcarolina.edu and a live broadcast on its North Carolina channel. Taped coverage of the ceremony and Spellings’ address also will be shown on UNC-TV beginning at 10 p.m. on Oct. 13.

Spellings officially began her duties at UNC president March 1 of this year.
