Communication between the Western Carolina University campus and off-campus sites on the university phone system will be unavailable for at least two hours Wednesday, Oct. 5, as WCU switches phone service providers.
The outage, which involves both in-bound and out-bound calls on the Cullowhee campus and at WCU’s Biltmore Park site, is scheduled for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., but the outage may be extended if problems arise.
Four-digit extension dialing internal to WCU’s Cullowhee campus and Biltmore Park site, and between the two locations, is expected to remain operational.
During the outage, emergency calls to University Police on the Cullowhee campus through the 8911 number will be routed directly to WCU’s Emergency Communications Center. Callers who have a problem getting through should dial 911 with a cell phone to reach Jackson County emergency dispatch, which will contact and advise University Police of the call.
At the Biltmore Park site, emergency calls to 911 using campus telephones should connect as usual with Buncombe County Emergency Services. Callers who have a problem getting through should dial 911 using a cell phone.
Questions about the telephone outage should be directed to the Division of Information Technology’s Help Desk at 828-227-7487 or email@example.com.
