Western Carolina University’s Whee Lead Alumni Challenge kicked off Tuesday, March 29, with a goal to secure 400 new or returning alumni donors by Friday, April 22.
If the goal is met, Chancellor David O. Belcher, Provost Alison Morrison-Shetlar, WCU’s Board of Trustees and Foundation Board will donate an additional $20,000 ― or more ― for scholarships and academic programming.
“Our WCU leaders are excited about the great things happening on campus, and they want every single alumnus to share in that excitement as well. That’s why our WCU leaders are willing to support the Whee Lead Challenge to share WCU pride and inspire others across our alumni base in giving,” said Claire Burns, WCU director of annual giving. “This challenge is about alumni participation and purple pride. Your gifts, combined with the contributions of your fellow alumni, will support deserving students and strengthen WCU’s academic excellence.”
Any WCU alumnus who has not made a gift from July 1, 2015, to March 28, 2016, qualifies to be counted in the challenge. All contributions are entirely tax deductible. Gifts can be made by going online to wheelead.wcu.edu. Donations may be made by mail to:

“We also need your help spreading your love for WCU on social media,” Burns said. “Go to our webpage, wheelead.wcu.edu. Use one of our pre-written posts, share an image from our image library or create your own message. When you personalize your message, be sure to include ‘#WheeLead’.”
