Tormey, Donovan among co-authors of climate change paper

Blair Tormey, researcher for WCU’s Program for the Study of Developed Shorelines, and 2014 WCU alumna Bailey Donovan are among the 18 contributors to a paper about climate change that is being discussed in the scientific community.

The research, led by retired NASA climate scientist James Hansen, suggests that drastic climate change could happen within decades rather than centuries due to the current rate of burning fossil fuels.

The paper is titled “Ice melt, sea level rise and superstorms: evidence from paleoclimate data, climate modeling, and modern observations that 2 C global warming could be dangerous.” A draft version, released prior to peer review, caused a significant debate among scientists who study climate.
