WCU community members are invited to give to their favorite charities through the annual N.C. State Employees Combined Campaign, which will be held at WCU from Monday, Sept. 29, to Friday, Nov. 7.
“Chancellor (David) Belcher has challenged the Catamount nation to share how we are making a difference in our communities, and donating during the SECC is a great way to show what you care about and make a difference,” said Shawna Young, director for outreach and assessment in student affairs and WCU SECC chair. “This year is a great opportunity to donate to any of the many charities that serve our region and directly impact our communities.”
Last year, WCU exceeded a campaign goal of $30,000 by more than $6,000.
“In honor of WCU’s 125th anniversary, the campaign goal has been increased to $40,125 this year,” said Young. “That amount can be a big boost to the charities in our region.”
For the first time, WCU will participate in the SECC’s online e-Pledge system, which is designed to simplify the process for those who wish to donate using payroll deduction or a credit card. Young said WCU employees will be notified when the SECC e-Pledge system is open.
SECC, the only officially sanctioned fund drive conducted on WCU’s campus, enables state employees to support any of more than 1,000 eligible charitable causes through check, cash, payroll deduction or online using the e-Pledge system, and all contributions are tax deductible.
