The State Library of North Carolina awarded $5,000 to Katy Ginanni, collection development librarian at Hunter Library, for a project to acquire Academy Award-winning films to support WCU’s Motion Picture and Television Production Program. Ginanni worked on the grant application with Alessia Zanin-Yost, research and instruction librarian, and Peter Johnson, head of access services.

Targeted categories to expand in the library’s collection include directing, best actor in a leading role, best actress in a leading role, best picture, writing (original screenplay), documentary and foreign language film. Some of the films sought include “The Great Ziegfeld: (1936), “You Can’t Take it With You” (1938), “Mrs. Miniver” (1942), “Mildred Pierce” (1945), “Zorba the Greek” (1964), “Out of Africa” (1985), “Sling Blade” (1996) and “Juno” (2007).

Films from the collection can be checked out by any WCU student or faculty or staff member.
