Hunter Library announces its first all-sound collection

WCU’s Hunter Library has created a new, digital, all-sound oral history collection titled “Stories of Mountain Folk.”

The collection comprises half-hour radio shows produced since 2008 by Catch the Spirit of Appalachia, a Western North Carolina nonprofit organization. The interviews capture local memories detailing traditions, events and life stories of mountain people including gardeners, herbalists, farmers, musicians, artists, writers and more.

The collection can be accessed at www.wcu.edu/library/DigitalCollections/StoriesofMountainFolk/. Hunter Library is committed to building regionally oriented, historically significant collections of broad cultural and research interest. “Stories of Mountain Folk” is the library’s first sound collection.
