Student artist to be commissioned to create Josefina Niggli portrait

The Western Carolina University 2009 Josefina Niggli Celebration Committee and Fine Art Museum will commission a WCU student artist to create a work of art that embodies the spirit and character of Niggli, an acclaimed WCU faculty member, writer, poet and theater and movie director.

The winner will receive a $500 Best of Show Purchase Award, and the commissioned piece will become part of the College of Fine and Performing Arts Collection permanently installed in the lobby of Niggli Theatre. In addition, up to 15 finalists’ works will be featured in two upcoming art exhibits. Applications and application information will be posted this week at http://niggli.wcu.edu. The deadline to apply is Friday, Dec. 4.
